Seventeen years ago, during the final year of my MBA, I met the man who would become my husband. Introduced through mutual friends, our relationship began in a very unique way.
In keeping with our traditions, my husband asked my parents’ permission before asking me out. We were allowed a handful of group dates, and I will never forget the day my father finally met him. In his very Indian way, he asked all the right questions—about debt, work ethic, and much more.
The Bible reminds us that “without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22) and that we should “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12). While seeking guidance from family, spiritual mentors, and community is essential to honoring God, it’s surprising how often Christian singles overlook this principle.
At A Lasting Tie, we aim to restore this tradition of wise counsel for one of life’s most important decisions: choosing a life partner. In doing so, we hope to foster relationships grounded in faith, wisdom, and family guidance.
