In the Waiting
When I first met my husband, one of the things that drew me most to him was his commitment to serving in the church. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone—he was simply faithful where God had planted him. What stood out even more was his clarity: life is short, and the only right way to live is by seeking God’s Kingdom first.

Waiting—whether for marriage, a new season, or God’s next step—can feel long and uncertain. But waiting is not wasted. God uses it to shape us, to strengthen us, and to prepare us for the blessings ahead.
1️⃣ Put God First in Your Life

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

Singleness isn’t a holding pattern—it’s a time to deepen your relationship with God. Invest in prayer, Scripture, and worship. When Christ is your foundation, the desires of the flesh know their place.

2️⃣ Pursue Character Over Charm

“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

The waiting season is the perfect opportunity to cultivate godly character—patience, kindness, humility, and integrity. Instead of fixating on who you might meet, ask: Who am I becoming? Godly character outlasts fleeting attraction.

3️⃣ Practice Purity and Self-Control

“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3

Purity is about honoring God with your body, mind and choices. The habits you build in waiting—self control, discipline, and respect for God's standards—prepare you for faithfulness and trust within marriage.

4️⃣ Seek Wise Counsel and Community

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14

Don’t walk this journey alone. Surround yourself with wise mentors, pastors, and Christian friends who will encourage you and hold you accountable. God often uses community to bring clarity and direction in seasons of waiting.

Purity is about honoring God with your body, mind, and choices. The habits you build in waiting—self-control, discipline, and respect for God’s standards—prepare you for faithfulness and trust within marriage.

5️⃣ Embrace Servant-Hearted Love

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3

Marriage isn’t about fulfilling yourself—it’s about serving another. Use your season of waiting to practice sacrificial love: serve in your church, volunteer in your community, and put others before yourself. This prepares your heart for the self-giving love that marriage requires.
