1. Christ-Centered Relationships
"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers." – 2 Corinthians 6:14
Matchmaking should prioritize spiritual compatibility. Both individuals should share a genuine faith in Jesus Christ, aiming to build a relationship rooted in God's Word.
2. Purpose of Marriage
"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." – Genesis 2:24
Marriage is God-ordained and intended for unity, companionship, mutual support, and the reflection of Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:25–33). Matchmaking should keep these purposes in view, not just romance or attraction.
3. Character Over Charm
"Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." – Proverbs 31:30
External qualities matter, but godly character, humility, kindness, patience, and a reverence for God are far more important and lasting.
4. Honor and Purity
"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality." – 1 Thessalonians 4:3
Encourage couples to honor each other with emotional, physical, and spiritual purity throughout courtship. The matchmaking process should support boundaries and accountability.
5. Wise Counsel
"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." – Proverbs 15:22
Involving godly mentors, pastors, or mature believers in the matchmaking and courtship process brings wisdom, safety, and clarity.
6. Prayerful Discernment
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God... and it will be given him." – James 1:5
Prayer should saturate every step—from the matchmaker’s decision-making to the couple’s discernment. Seeking God’s will together and individually is vital.
7. Mutual Willingness & Consent
"Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" – Amos 3:3
Biblical matchmaking is not coercive. Both individuals must freely and prayerfully choose each other, based on mutual respect and shared values.
8. Servant-Hearted Love
"Love is patient, love is kind... it does not insist on its own way." – 1 Corinthians 13:4–7
Help individuals look not only for a compatible spouse but for someone they are willing to serve, sacrifice for, and grow with in Christlike love.
9. Family and Community Involvement
"Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old." – Proverbs 23:22
Honoring and involving families (as appropriate) can strengthen accountability and bring valuable perspectives—especially in a Christian or cultural context that values community input.
10. Trusting God’s Timing
"He has made everything beautiful in its time." – Ecclesiastes 3:11
Encourage patience and faith, trusting that God is sovereign over relationships and will bring about the right union in His perfect time.
